Chocolate brownie with cherry sauce

Preparation Time: 1 hour
Servings: 8

Ingredients:

For the brownie:

  • 200 g of dark chocolate (minimum 70% cocoa)
  • 150 g of butter
  • 200 g of sugar
  • 3 eggs
  • 100 g of all-purpose flour
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract
  • A pinch of salt

For the cherry sauce:

  • 300 g of pitted cherries
  • 100 g of sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of lemon juice
  • 1 tablespoon of cornstarch dissolved in 2 tablespoons of water
  • 1 teaspoon of vanilla extract

Instructions:

For the brownie:

  1. Preheat the oven to 180°C (350°F) and grease a 20×20 cm (8×8 inch) square baking pan.
  2. Melt the chocolate and butter together in a double boiler or in the microwave in 30-second intervals, stirring until smooth.
  3. In a large bowl, beat the sugar with the eggs and vanilla extract until the mixture is smooth and creamy.
  4. Add the melted chocolate mixture to the beaten eggs and mix well.
  5. Incorporate the flour and salt, mixing until well combined.
  6. Pour the batter into the prepared pan and bake for 25-30 minutes.
  7. Let cool in the pan before cutting into squares.

For the cherry sauce:

  1. In a medium saucepan, combine the cherries, sugar, and lemon juice. Cook over medium heat, stirring occasionally, until the cherries release their juice and the sugar dissolves, about 5-7 minutes.
  2. Add the dissolved cornstarch and cook, stirring constantly, until the sauce thickens, about 2 minutes.
  3. Remove from heat and add the vanilla extract. Let cool slightly before serving.

To serve:

  1. Serve the brownies on individual plates.
  2. Pour a generous amount of cherry sauce over each brownie.
  3. Optional: Add a scoop of vanilla ice cream to complement the dessert.
